Ojaleshi is one of Georgia’s oldest indigenous grape varieties and originates from Samegrelo in western Georgia. In the Megrelian language, its name literally means “growing up the tree,” referring to the traditional cultivation method in which the vines climbed alder or persimmon trees. Today, modern high-wire trellis and Guyot training systems are also used, resulting in significantly lower yields per vine and higher grape quality.
The remote village of Bandza, renowned for its limestone-rich and mineral soils, is considered one of the most historic and distinguished terroirs for Ojaleshi. Our grower cultivates the variety here with the highest commitment to quality. VAZIS XIDI Ojaleshi N°2 2019 is an impressive ambassador of this rediscovered Megrelian heritage grape. It displays silky, beautifully integrated tannins and a complex aromatic profile with notes of violets, cherries, pomegranate, plum, fig, black tea, spices, and tobacco.
Its intensity and fruit character make VAZIS XIDI Ojaleshi N°2 2019 an excellent companion to grilled meats, Mediterranean cuisine, and mature cheeses.
