Origin
Native to upper and central Imereti, with around 265 hectares under cultivation.
The name
The origin of the name is uncertain. It may refer to the grape’s small berries or to the village of Tsitske.
In the vineyard
Buds in mid-April and ripens in early October. Moderate vigour and high yields. Our grower in Zovreti is the fourth generation of his family to cultivate Tsitska.
The grapes
Medium-sized, compact, conical bunches.
Taste and aroma
Green pear, lemon zest, white blossom, fresh herbs and apple, with mineral notes. Light-bodied, with very high acidity.
In the cellar
We blend 20% Tsitska into our Krakhuna wines for added freshness and acidity. Tsitska is also the grape behind our Pét-Nat, a naturally sparkling wine available to taste only in our cellar.
Food pairings
As part of our Krakhuna wines: fish, seafood, poultry and Mediterranean vegetable dishes.
More about the grape
When harvested early enough, Tsitska produces elegant white and sparkling wines. Tsitska makes up 20% of both our Krakhuna wines, bringing freshness and acidity.
