Grapes

The Ojaleshi grape is one of the oldest grape varieties in Georgia and originates from Megrelia in the west of the country. In the Megrelian language, the name literally means “growing up the tree” - a reference to the traditional cultivation method in which the vines climb up alder or persimmon trees. Today, high-lying wire frame and Guyot training systems are also used. This significantly reduces the yield per vine.

Process

The remote Bandza, known for its limestone-rich and mineral soils, is one of the historically most important terroirs for Ojaleshi. Our local winegrower cultivates the variety here with the highest quality standards. The VAZIS XIDI Ojaleshi 2019 N°2 is an impressive ambassador for this rediscovered megrelian traditional grape variety. It presents itself with powerful, well-integrated tannins and a multi-layered aroma of cherries, prunes, figs, black tea and various spices.

Character

Its power and fruitiness make the VAZIS XIDI Ojaleshi 2019 N°2 the ideal companion for grilled meat, Mediterranean dishes and mature cheese.
