Grapes
Rkatsiteli literally means “red horn”. The name refers to the reddish color of the grape stems and the slightly curved shape of the grape panicle. This traditional autochthonous Georgian grape variety is known for its high sugar content and refreshing acidity, which give the wine a lively structure and harmonious profile. The grapes for the VAZIS XIDI Rkatsiteli 2021 grew in Chailuri in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. Here, the many hours of sunshine, the warm temperatures and the calcareous soil shape the unmistakable character of the grapes.
Process
When the hand-picked grapes were processed into amber wine, the must was fermented on the skins in traditional clay qvevris and transferred to a second qvevri after four weeks. The wine then matured there for a whole year.
Character
The VAZIS XIDI Rkatsiteli 2021 is a complex wine with particular depth, richness and suppleness. It is characterized by its beautiful amber color and its multi-layered aroma with notes of ripe and dried yellow and tropical fruits as well as spices, walnuts, almonds and honey. It is an ideal accompaniment to food and goes very well with grilled meat and vegetables, Mediterranean dishes such as ratatouille or couscous, mature goat's cheese or Georgian specialties such as mtsvadi (grilles meat skewers).
Ideal drinking temperature: 10 to 14°C
Allow to breathe or decant 15 to 30 minutes before serving.
