Grapes

The Otskhanuri Sapere grape variety is one of the oldest indigenous varieties of Western Georgia and is primarily native to Imereti. Today, it is cultivated only in small quantities and requires particular care in the vineyard.

Process

The grapes for our Otskhanuri Sapere N°1 2020 were grown in Tskhratskharo on mineral, clay-rich soils in a protected hillside location. After careful hand-harvesting, the must was traditionally fermented in qvevri. A natural stop in fermentation at 17.5 g/l residual sugar resulted in a classically styled semi-dry red wine that offers great drinkability.

Character

On the palate, it is soft and approachable, with lively freshness and a layered aromatic profile of sour cherry, pomegranate, rose petals, strawberry jam, and rosehip.

A characterful yet easy-drinking wine that pairs particularly well with spiced and mildly spicy dishes.

Ideal drinking temperature: 16 to 18°C

Allow to breathe or decant 15–30 minutes before serving.
